you can always buy it...

Fourth smoke-free day: GO ME!

This whole quitting smoking thing has been easier than I anticipated. Maybe because I have had so much experience at the whole quitting thing or maybe because I am not looking forward to coughing out my liver…hard to say. In any case, I have only had 2 major cigarette cravings and I’ve killed them with bananas (don’t ask).

My cold is finally going away, but as if kicking my ass last weekend wasn’t enough, it has decided to leave me with a little parting gift: a cold sore. Normally I wouldn’t get so bent out of shape about it, except that while I was in Europe I forgot to stock up on Zovirax, the only thing that will make it go away quickly and painlessly. Here they won’t sell it to me without a prescription and in order to get a prescription for it apparently you need to have a freaking STD. UGH!

I am doomed to looking like Rudolph for the next week. This is very upsetting.

Today I haven’t felt like doing much work really. I have been focusing my energy in my plans for the future and the whole “what do you want to be when you grow up?” question. I have already decided that I want to go back to school and get my MS in Nutrition, and have found a few schools that really tickle my fancy, but I also want to do more because I don’t just want to be a nutritionist. Lately I’ve been evaluating my lifestyle, beliefs and the obnoxious way I have of telling people what they should and shouldn’t be doing to live well. It seems to me that I would make a damn good Holistic Health Counselor. So I am doing my research.

The problem with making plans for the future and doing things that are so far outside what you are already doing is the financial aspect of it. Although I realize that education is an investment, I don’t think I am very enthusiastic about indebting myself at this point in my life with anything other than a mortgage and I didn’t realize just how expensive grad school can be. Hopefully I’ll get a scholarship again. That would be nice.

Education is free in so many places, why can’t it be here?

I went to this forum thing the other day where these people were going back and forth as to why it is that ALL young people (because apparently everyone is college material and everyone wants to go to college) need to have the “college experience”. It seems to me that with that price tag, unless you REALLY want it, you don’t need it.

I'm so glad you are doing well with not smoking. I had a hard time with it, but that was like 12 years ago.

Dumb question but...

*You have made a great health and social decision.*

How's quitting smoking a great social decision? I mean, I'm a smoker...and don't get your point at all.

Having experienced the college experience, I can say it isn't necessary, only desirable to certain employers. It's like belonging to the right country club, or knowing the secret handshake. Don't bother if you are looking for job training.

I've never had a cold sore in my life. Isn't that odd?

Hooray for you! I hope you can beat the habit!!!!

Annush,

Congratulations on having not smoked for four days. Keep it up!

As for getting your MS in nutrition--let your heart--not your finances, dictate your course in life.

Our desires, inclinations, interests--they're all part of the blueprint of our lives. Think of it as a post-hypnotic suggestion from God so you won't 'forget' what you came here to do.

Harold : i am wondering about how that is a great social decision myself... Personally, I couldn't care less as to how the rest of humanity feels about MY habits!

Grant: I think you are absolutely right. And to take it a step further, I don't think that EVERYONE is college material. Unfortunate, but true.

Cindy: Thanks for the advise. I'm a little worried about the financial aspect of it, but I won't let it stop me :)

Even though is not great the one thing I found that works better than anything else you can buy at a pharmacy for cold sores is somrthing called Herpecin and put a TON of it. This means you can only put it on when you are at home because ypur lips will be all white...thought it would help :)

I;m glad you're quitting smoking so you might be a Holistic health counselor. I have zoviroz in my cabinet. I rarely get cold sores but I got two this past winter! You know they don;t have TYLENOL over here? My brother sent me some!
