P.S. It's a great poem. Did you write it? I enjoy the idea of thoughts reflecting a melody someone else is thinking of.

I'll take the liberty of an on-the-fly translation:

I see you in the far distance
and ask myself where exactly you are
and if for just one second of the day
we've looked at the same things.

Even through the distance I can feel your presence
and wonder how you are faring
whether you're thinking of a certain melody
reflected in the thoughts I'm thinking.

The one thing I never knew I wanted
the light that makes my darkness bearable
carries a melody of old memories and my
life over the far distance.

------

OK it's not my native language, but I think that's right, except maybe the last passage where the prepositions confused me.

The translation:

HERE AND THERE

Across the miles I see you
and I wonder where you are
if for one second of each day
our eyes feast on the same sights.

Through the distance I can feel you
and I wonder if you are well
if you think of random music
to match the lyrics in my head

The one I never knew I wanted
the light to compliment my dark
across the miles playing the soundtrack
of a distant memory and the life I write.

I think it's beautiful in English, too. Any my attempt at translation comes nowhere near the original.

*blush*
thank you.

btw- your translation was pretty good all things being considered.
